Retort: I Seek Truth (Freedom), Not Common "Wisdom" (Slavery)

Uploaded 7/27/2022, approx. 5 minute read

When the iPhone 3 came onto the market, I bought one. I bought one as a birthday gift.

And then I noticed that it sucks. It's a rudimentary device. You couldn't even copy paste on the iPhone 3.

And yet, everyone I spoke to, everyone who had bought or owned an iPhone 3, was praising the gadget, claiming that it's far superior to anything else in the market.

Now, this was counterfactual. It was not true.

So why were people doing this?

Cognitive dissonance. They bought the device. They invested a lot of money.

As usual, Apple products are like nine times what the price they should be. And then they couldn't admit that they have made a mistake. Buyers remorse.

So instead, they reframed. They lied to themselves and to others that the devices are great. It's the same with parents. They have children.

Children suck. They take the life force out of you.

Trust me, I've raised three plus one, my three brothers and my sister. It's possibly the most horrendous experience imaginable.

Very much like prison.

But there is cognitive dissonance. Parents must defend their decision. They don't want to be seen as idiots.

So they keep saying children are the greatest thing, the greatest light, wonderful creatures. They brought happiness into our lives.

I am sorry, but there isn't a single study, one which disputes the assertion that childless people are much, like much happier than people with children.

End of story. All the studies we have, dozens of them, or in all cultures and all societies imaginable, show clearly that parents are less happy than childless people.

This is an example of a more general phenomenon.

People were writing to me, abuse is not love.

First of all, I think it's pretty insolent to give me lectures about abuse. I'm the guy who first described narcissistic abuse. I even coined the phrase narcissistic abuse in the nineties.

So to teach me what is abuse is a bit over the top and arrogant. I never said that abuse is love or that love is abuse. I said that people who are abused tend in many cases to identify it with love.

They misperceive abuse as love. I also said that based on studies, abuse is much more common in loving, caring, committed relationships.

And if you stop to think about it for a second, you will see that it makes sense. If your partner had given up on you, he wouldn't bother to abuse you. That he keeps abusing you means he's somehow emotionally invested in you.

Now this investment is sick, pathological, wrong, but it's there. Abuse does indicate emotional investment and commitment in relationships, whether you like it or not.

More generally, you tend to reject the truth because you can't stand to face it. But the truth sets you free. Everything else enslaves you.

Haven't you learned this lesson in the past few years? The truth sets you free.

I've mentioned in several videos that incest is a trauma, but it is a trauma not because of the act itself. I'm sorry again. It's a trauma because of the way society reacts to incest.

Now this is not Sambacne. This is the greatest pediatrician and child psychoanalyst to have ever lived after Jean Piaget. This is Donald Winnicott. Donald Winnicott is the one who said that the trauma of incest is societal.

The child sees how everyone around all the other adults react to the incest and then internalizes the traumatic response.

The truth in psychology doesn't always go hand in hand with your common sense intuition and anecdotes. Your neighbor and your aunt and your granny and your children are not a representative sample. They are just your granny and your aunt and your neighbor and your children.

This is not how science is conducted. This is not how studies are affected. This is not how we learn the facts.

Truer scholars are committed to facts and truth, never mind if they risk being cancelled out.

So on my channel there is no place for political correctness, fakes, falsities, lies, pretensions, new age nonsense and so on. On this channel there is only one queen to which I am an obedient servant. It is the harsh queen of truth.

Okay Shoshanim, I hope you got it. I want to tell you something. A bit tongue in cheek but still very true.

Remember these sentences.

Stress mobilizes. Anxiety paralyzes. Dedication galvanizes. Addiction euthanizes. Envy kills.

Emulation fulfills. Grieving is overcome. Depression overcomes. Striving attains. Perfectionism detains.

Memorize these five sentences and you have 99% of the psychological knowledge you need for life.

Today we are going to discuss a relatively complex topic for a change but fascinating in my view at least.

My name is Sam Vaknin. I am the author of Malignant Self-Love, Narcissism Revisited and other books about personality disorders. I am also a professor of psychology.

By the way yesterday there was an article in the Daily Mail, an interview with me and I think it is one of the best encapsulations of narcissistic abuse that I have ever seen.

Surprising for a tabloid but you know you find pearls in unexpected places.

I recommend that you go and read this article. It was published on the 25th which is yesterday. It was authored by Yves Taufik.

If you enjoyed this article, you might like the following:

Two Faces Of Narcissistic Abuse Disrespect From Shared Fantasy To Bargaining

Professor Sam Vaknin discusses the dynamics of narcissistic abuse, including the two phases of the shared fantasy and bargaining phase. He explains how narcissists use stickiness to create a shared fantasy with their targets and then extract adulation, abuse, sex, and services. Vaknin also highlights the differences between narcissists and psychopaths and concludes that narcissistic abuse is a choice and a stupid one at that.

Narcissists Love Your Victimhood (Game Changers Interview 3 of 3)

Dr. Sam Vaknin discusses the challenges of educating potential victims of narcissistic abuse, emphasizing that education alone is not enough to prevent victimization. He explains that victims often have unclear personal boundaries, are people-pleasers, and have deep psychological needs that make them prone to victimhood. Vaknin suggests that it is more important to address the psychology of the victim than their cognitive capacity to recognize abuse. He also highlights the need to restore faith in the future for both victims and narcissists, as well as the elites who have lost perspective on the future.

SECRET Reason Narcissist Devalues, Discards YOU

Professor Sam Vaknin discusses the mysterious behavior of narcissists, including devaluation, discard, and replacement. He explains that narcissists recreate the dynamics of their early childhood conflicts with their mothers through their intimate partners, aiming to achieve successful separation and individuation. The narcissist devalues and discards their partner as a way to separate from them, and this process is not the partner's fault. Vaknin also discusses how urbanization and the rise of cities have contributed to the increase in narcissism, and he predicts that the transition from cities to the metaverse will lead to a shift from narcissism to psychopathy.

Through Narcland and Beyond (ENGLISH responses, with Nárcisz Coach)

Professor Sam Vaknin discusses his work in creating a language to describe narcissism and narcissistic abuse, which was previously neglected in the field of psychology. He explains that narcissistic abuse is different from other types of abuse as it is total and existential, and that victims were previously unable to describe their experiences. Vaknin believes that his biggest contribution to the field was giving a voice to victims of narcissism, but notes that there is still a lack of knowledge about narcissism among mental health professionals and in universities. He warns that without institutional knowledge of narcissism, narcissists will continue to leverage institutional power to promote themselves and prey on others.

VINOs: Victims in Name Only - Professional, Career "Victims" (News Intervention)

Professor Sam Vaknin discusses the infiltration of victimhood movements by narcissists and psychopaths, who use these movements to gain power, money, and attention. He explains that these individuals often pose as victims or altruistic givers to manipulate others and feel superior. Vaknin also highlights studies that show the connection between dark triad personality traits (narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism) and displays of virtue and victimhood. As victimhood movements become part of the establishment and require hard work and perseverance, narcissists and psychopaths tend to lose interest and move on.

Narcissist's Credo And My Minnie Relationship

The text is a transcript of a speech by Professor Sam Vaknin about the beliefs, tenets, and credo of a narcissist. He describes himself as a narcissist and explains that he is superior, opinionated, and entitled to be grandiose. He also states that he cannot be changed and that his playmates must accept him as he is, forgive him unconditionally, and love him regardless of his conduct. He emphasizes that he is the one who decides which game to play and that his playmates must adapt to his whims.

Flying Monkeys of Narcissist Zero: Language of Narcissistic Abuse

The insistence on being credited for one's work stems from a deep appreciation for history and the importance of memory in understanding context and lineage. Without proper attribution, there is a risk of intellectual theft, which undermines creativity and the moral fabric of society. The speaker emphasizes the need for recognition of contributions to the discourse on narcissism, asserting that their pioneering efforts in coining terminology have shaped the field significantly. This struggle for acknowledgment reflects a broader concern about the loss of historical awareness and the consequences of living in a contextless, present-focused world.

Push Narcissist’s 4 Secret Buttons: Gamma Man or Agent of Chaos, Madness?

The lecture discusses the four key psychological buttons of narcissists: the precocious child, the conquering hero, the father guru, and divinity, each representing different aspects of the narcissist's identity and behavior. These buttons can be manipulated in two ways: to maintain a relationship or to facilitate a breakup, with specific strategies for each button. The speaker emphasizes that narcissism is a complex and pervasive personality construct, not merely a collection of behaviors, and highlights the chaos and discomfort that narcissists introduce into relationships. Additionally, the concept of the gamma male is introduced as a non-clinical classification that aligns with certain traits of cerebral narcissists, illustrating the broader spectrum of narcissistic behaviors.

Victim: Don't Become Your Abuser!

Professor Sam Vaknin discusses the dangers of embracing victimhood after experiencing narcissistic abuse. He explains that there are three categories of victims: those affected by the narcissist's instability, those misled by the narcissist's emotional signals, and those intentionally targeted by the narcissist. Vaknin warns that adopting a perpetual victim mentality can lead to narcissistic behaviors, splitting the world into good and evil, and becoming emotionally dependent on the victim identity. He urges individuals to reflect on their own contributions to their situations and avoid falling into the trap of perpetual victimhood.

Manipulate the Narcissist and Live to Tell About It? (Lecture in Budapest)

The lecture discusses the complexities of dealing with narcissists, emphasizing that the most effective method for managing a narcissist is to maintain no contact. It outlines eight techniques for manipulation, including gray rock, mirroring, and deflection, but warns that using these strategies can lead to adopting narcissistic traits oneself. The speaker explains that narcissists are often victims of their own trauma, leading to their manipulative behaviors, and highlights the importance of understanding the narcissist's mindset to navigate interactions effectively. Ultimately, the lecture stresses that the only true path to healing and self-preservation is to sever ties completely with narcissistic individuals.
