"Sexual Perversion"? No Such Thing in Psychology

Uploaded 9/4/2018, approx. 2 minute read

My name is Sam Vaknin, and I am the author of Malignant Self-Love, Narcissism Revisited.

Today, we are going to discuss about sex, or more precisely, sexual perversions and deviance.

Now, there is only one problem with this topic. There is no such thing as perverse sexuality that makes the topic a bit difficult to discuss.

Victorian middle-class values aside, if the sexual behavior harms no one, including oneself, and is consensual between consenting adults, then the sexual behavior is considered by psychologists and psychiatrists to be utterly both healthy and normal.

I repeat, there is no such thing as sexual perversion. It is all a question of are you harming someone, are you harming yourself, and is it consensual if you agree in advance to the specific behavior?

So, homosexuality, bisexuality, BDSM, bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, sadomasochism, cross-dressing, water sports, also known as golden showers, role-playing and fantasy, and group sex or freezones, all these things are nowhere to be found in any psychiatric authoritative text.

You cannot find them, for example, in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, Edition 5, dated 2013, and you cannot find them in the next edition of the International Classification of Diseases, ICT 11.

Next time someone tells you that your sexuality is perverse, tell them to go and get rid of their hang-ups and inhibitions. Tell them to seek the help of a good sex therapist.

Ironically, taken to the extreme, such a judgmental, puritanical, and restrictive normative attitude towards sex is a sign of a mental health pathology, mental health problems.

It is in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, and it is the hallmark of backward primitive societies and arrested personality development, or kind of upbringing, kind of house or home, where you hear that sex is dirty, or some sex is dirty. Commonly, you get both, both the wrong upbringing and as a consequence, arrested personality development immaturity.

So, you would say, what about pedophilia? Do you justify it? Of course not. Pedophilia does not involve consensual sex between consenting adults.

So what about coprophagia, using feces for sex, playing? Well, that happens to be medically very dangerous to one's self and to others. It's also out of bounds and beyond the pain. It's also pathological.

But even these are not considered called perversions. They are paraphilias. They are unusual sex practices. Perversion is a value judgment, societal, cultural, dependent on the period.

Up until the beginning of the 20th century, masturbation was a perversion. And if this is the case, then we are all hopeless perverts. I wish you fun and joy and pleasure in unlimited quantities in any way that turns you on.

Go and be perverts. He is my unqualified device.

Pedophile Narcissist: Narcissism, Pedophilia, and Hebephilia

Pedophiles are primarily attracted to prepubescent children and often experience distress upon realizing their sexual preferences, which are not necessarily linked to childhood abuse. They typically exhibit narcissistic and antisocial traits, lacking empathy and rationalizing their actions as beneficial to the child. The relationship dynamics involve manipulation and control, with the pedophile viewing the child as an extension of themselves, often leading to a shared psychosis. Cultural perceptions of pedophilia vary significantly, and there is ongoing debate about its classification within psychiatric frameworks, reflecting broader societal attitudes towards childhood and sexuality.

Antisocial Psychopath and Sociopath: Antisocial Personality Disorder

Psychopathy is characterized by antisocial traits combined with a lack of empathy, callousness, and deceitfulness, and it often becomes evident in early adolescence. While it is chronic, psychopathy can improve with age, as criminal behavior and substance abuse typically decline in older individuals. Psychopaths view others as tools for their gratification, reject social norms, and lack a sense of obligation or remorse, often rationalizing their harmful actions. Additionally, psychopathy may have genetic and neurological components, and some individuals may exhibit underlying anxiety that drives their antisocial behavior.

Narcissist, Pedophilia, Hebephilia and The Invented Child (ENGLISH responses)

Pedophiles are not only attracted to children, with a majority being heterosexual and having families of their own. The drive to have sex with children is ancient and until recently was codified in the law. The concept of childhood is a new concept, and as it was invented, prohibitions on certain interactions with children were introduced. The risk of incest and active pedophilia is much higher with narcissists and psychopaths, and inappropriate behavior with children must be aggressively defended against with these individuals.

Shyness or Narcissism? Avoidant Personality Disorder

Avoidant personality disorder is characterized by feelings of inadequacy, inferiority, and a lack of self-confidence. People with this disorder are shy and socially inhibited, and even constructive criticism is perceived as rejection. They avoid situations that require interpersonal contact and find it difficult to establish intimate relationships. The disorder affects 0.5 to 1% of the general population and is often co-diagnosed with mood and anxiety disorders, dependent and borderline personality disorders, and cluster A personality disorders.

Children Psychopaths? Conduct Disorder

Children and adolescents with conduct disorder are budding psychopaths who repeatedly and deliberately violate the rights of others and breach age-appropriate social norms and rules. They are socially, occupationally, and academically dysfunctional, and their diagnosis changes to antisocial personality disorder or psychopathy beyond the age of 18. These children are in denial and tend to minimize their problems and blame others for their misbehavior and failures. Adolescents with conduct disorder are often embroiled in fights, both verbal and physical, and many underage muggers, extortionists, hearse snatchers, rapists, robbers, shoplifters, burglars, arsonists, vandals, and animal torturers are diagnosed with conduct disorder.

NEW Psychopath: Ashamed, Empathic, Anxious (Primary Factor 1 F1 vs. Secondary F2 Literature Review)

There is a significant shift in the understanding of psychopathy, particularly distinguishing between primary and secondary psychopaths, which may represent two distinct categories rather than variations of the same disorder. Primary psychopaths are characterized by low anxiety and a lack of emotional response to others, while secondary psychopaths experience anxiety and can exhibit emotional responses, including empathy. Recent studies suggest that psychopathy may not solely be an empathy deficit, as some psychopaths can experience emotional empathy, challenging traditional views on the disorder. This evolving understanding emphasizes the need for a nuanced approach to psychopathy, recognizing its complexity and the implications for treatment and societal protection.

Is Your Pet Cat a Psychopath? (PURR, GASP!)

A recent study by researchers at the University of Liverpool has found that all cats have some level of psychopathy, with the reason being that in an ancestral environment that demanded self-sufficiency, wild cats that had higher levels of psychopathic traits may have been more successful in acquiring resources such as food, territory and mating opportunities. The study settled on the conclusion that all cats are psychopathic to some degree. The questions asked in the study are pretty generic, such as my cat demands attention, or my cat disobeys rules, or behaviors that are pretty standard for the species.

Pathologizing Rebellious Youth: Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) labels rebellious teenagers with oppositional Defiant Disorder, which is a pattern of negativistic, defiant, disobedient, and hostile behavior towards authority figures. The DSM's criteria for this disorder are arbitrary and subject to the value judgments of adult psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and therapists. The diagnosis of oppositional Defiant Disorder seems to put the whole mental health profession to shame, and it is a latent tool of social control. If you are above the age of 18 and you are stubborn, resistant to directions, unwilling to compromise, give in or negotiate with adults and peers, you stand a good chance of being diagnosed as a psychopath.

Narcissists and Negativistic (Passive-Aggressive) Personality Disorder

Negativistic, passive-aggressive personality disorder is characterized by chronic pessimism, resistance to authority, and a tendency to undermine others in social and workplace settings. Individuals with this disorder often exhibit behaviors such as procrastination, neglect, and sabotage, while feeling unappreciated and victimized by their circumstances. They display a range of negative emotions, including irritability and envy, and often react to perceived slights with sulking or the silent treatment. Despite their obstructive behavior, they may seek forgiveness and promise change when confronted, but these promises typically go unfulfilled.

Hermit: Schizoid Personality Disorder

Schizoid personality disorder is characterized by anhedonia, leading individuals to experience little to no pleasure and exhibit indifference towards social relationships. Schizoids are emotionally flat, lacking intimacy and rarely expressing feelings, which results in a preference for solitary activities and mechanical tasks. They maintain few connections, even with family, and are rigid in their routines, often struggling to adapt to changing circumstances. Their social interactions are marked by ineptness, as they fail to respond appropriately to social cues and gestures.
